Mujahida
Rooh aur qalb ki intehai koshish is called jihad e nafs.
Deen is mujahida.
Deen is striving in the path of Allah.
The person who is sometimes in the state of imaan and
sometimes in the state without imaan, is a munafiq.
You should do mujahida all the time.
When you don’t do mujahida, or there is some flaw in your
mujahida—that means there is something wrong with your shariat or your tariqa.
When you leave mujahida, you fall into sin.
Which person leaves mujahida? The person who becomes
comfortable in the comforts of dunya.
He becomes contented with the luxuries of the dunya.
There’s a difference between having the luxuries of dunya
and loving them. This is “zuhd”.
Someone may be rich and have zuhd, and another person may be
poor and be lost in love of the world.
Everyone is responsible for how much of
the world they get, no matter how much.
The people doing mujahida of nafs never stop, they always
seek more nearness of Allah. They never think that they have enough of
closeness to Allah.
Someone is not able to do dhikr because they are caught up
in the demands of the world: they let the dunya distract them.
The person who cannot do dhikr while caught up in the middle
of the world, cannot do dhikr in his free time.
Mujahida=muraqabah and wuquf e qalbi (two methods of dhikr
in naqshbandi mujaddadi tareeka of Islamic spirituality).
Leaving the world and shutting yourself up in a holy place
is not true mujahida.
True mujahida is done while living in the midst of the
world.
Some people say that how can I balance ilm and dhikr? I am
too busy. How do I balance?
This is also a trap of Shaytan.
There are a lot of times during the day when you are not
obtaining ilm or doing work.
When you are obtaining ilm or teaching it, you should do
wuquf e qalbi.
This means remembering Allah in your spiritual heart while
your body is engaged in the work of the world.
Your heart calls out to Allah while your hands are busy
doing something else.
How can I do muraqabah while I am obtaining ilm?
If you do wuquf e qalbi during obtaining ilm—you will obtain
the noor of that ilm.
The amount of noor is directly proportional to the amount of
wuquf e qalbi.
One meaning of wuquf e qalbi is: the thing you do for Allah
swt’s Pleasure, it is a form of dhikr.
One thing is that you drink from the stream of dhikr and ilm
at the same time. This requires a lot of mujahida.
But once you get the hang of
it, your mind does it automatically.
It requires a lot of hard work.
Imam Rabbani r.a. said in maktoobaat about qurb (nearness):
the best way to obtain the nearness of Allah is to follow shariat and sunnat.
No other way to attain nearness to Allah swt.
The faraiz, wajibaat and sunan give such a status in front
of Allah that nafl cannot.
40 years maqbool tahajjud cannot give you that status that
constant safeguarding of gaze does.
Mujahida means, then—moulding your life according to Quran
and Sunnah.
Doing work of Nabuwwat—doesn’t mean that you will literally
become a nabi. It just means spreading Allah swt’s Word.
The people who give life to Allah’s Shariat and
Sunnat—dawah, teaching—any work that gives life to deen, are very close to
Allah.
After all this comes dhikr—third level of qurb.
First (highest)—shariat and sunnat
Second>deen work/dawah
Third>dhikr, muraqabah etc
Then why so much stress on kasrat e dhikr?
Because high level of dhikr enables us to perform more
Sunnah and follow Shariah.
Khidmat of deen. Acceptance of khidmat of deen by Allah
depends on kasrat e dhikr.
If someone has the first two things—follows Shariat, follows
Sunnah, does khidmat of deen—then that person is in danger of riyaa (showing
off) or ujub (pride).
If a jumaat has Sunnah, Shariat, khidmat of deen, but not
kasrat e zikr, this group of people will fall prey to pride and arrogance.
You cannot escape ujub (self-love, narcissism) on a personal
or a community level without kasrat e zikr.
